I plan to identify the impacts of white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) food plots on songbirds and small mammals in the eastern United States.

Department of Forestry, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC, Summer 2007

Worked to locate and monitor songbird nests as part of a study of bird use of Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program land on farms in the northeastern Coastal Plain of North Carolina. Conducted bird surveys using sight and sound. Conducted vegetation measurements in habitat.

Department of Forestry, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC, Summer 2006-Fall 2006

Worked to locate and monitor songbird nests as part of a study of bird use of field borders on farms in the southeastern Coastal Plain of North Carolina. Conducted vegetation measurements and set up artificial Northern Bobwhite (Colinus virginianus) nests. In the fall, participated in fall covey counts to identify coveys on the farms.

Christmas Tree Genetics, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC, Fall 2004-Fall 2007

Worked part-time maintaining greenhouses, fertilizing and watering plants. Collected data and did physical labor at field sites. Worked in the lab cleaning seeds and inserting data into the computer. Had a variety of duties and developed many skills.

Christmas Tree Genetics, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC, Summer 2004

Worked with the Phytoptera root rot research project. Collected data in the North Carolina Mountains for research on Fraser firs (Abies fraseri) and altern ate firs. Worked with many fir species and other tree species to help improve knowledge and research.

North Carolina State University, Fisheries and Wildlife Summer Camp, Summer 2005

Participated in four weeks of wildlife camp in Butner, North Carolina, one week of mountain camp in the Great Smokey Mountains, and one week of fish camp in Butner, North Carolina. Summer camp laid the foundation for my future fisheries and wildlife research and instilled a passion for wildlife that I will carry throughout my career.

Had the priveledge to work on many projects with qualified researchers as I developed my research skills. I worked with many different critters and many great people.
